METLIFE RANKED AMONG NEWSWEEK'S TOP GREEN U.S. COMPANIES

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) has been ranked among the top 50 in Newsweek magazine's environmental rankings of the 500 largest U.S. companies. MetLife is ranked number 49 overall, the highest ranking life insurer on the list, and number five within the banks and insurance industry sector on the magazine's 2010 list.
MetLife's greenhouse gas emissions, water use, environmental policies, and green programs and initiatives were all taken into consideration when compiling the ranking. Newsweek also factored in reputational survey results from chief executive officers, corporate social responisiblity professionals, academics and other environmental experts to determine the final list.

To create the ranking, Newsweek worked with MSCI ESG Research, Trucost and CorporateRegister.com. The magazine's criteria for inclusion on the list were based on revenue, market capitalization and headcount. The complete list appears in the October 28 issue of Newsweek.
